As of 1st July the Rural Retention Program has ceased and the General Practice Rural Incentives Program (GPRIP) has commenced. The GPRIP’s program will provide a consistent set of incentive payment for GP’s and GP Registrars practicing in rural locations. The program will streamline the administration of incentive payments and provide parity between GP’s and GP Registrars.
The new General Practice Rural Incentives Program (GPRIP) will replace the Registrars Rural Incentive Payments Scheme (RRIPS), which applied to GP registrars on the AGPT program along with the Rural Retention Program for GPs. To be eligible for incentive payments, General Practitioners must provide services within Australian Standard Geographical Classification – Remoteness Areas (ASGC-RA) 2-5. The ASGC-RA status of any location in Australia may be determined using the mapping locator on www.doctorconnect.gov.au.
GP Rural Incentive Program (GPRIP) is scaled according to RA classification, and paid after each 4 active quarters, with calculations based on quarterly Medicare Billings thresholds (pro-rata minimum $4000 – maximum $20,000). Incentives are capped after the 5th and subsequent years. Detailed information for practices within the NSW CWDGP boundaries can be found in the attached document below or for more information contact Bronwyn Boyling Workforce Officer on 63332819.
