The Division's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program

The Division provides and facilitates professional development opportunities for the general practice team. These opportunities support health professionals in maintaining, developing and improving skills, knowledge and attributes to bring about positive change in practice, behaviour, and/or practice systems. The ultimate aim of the program is to improve patient outcomes.

CPD activities include:

• Providing regular, quality CPD spanning a range of topics, learning modes, and geographic areas in the Central West;
• Submitting CPD points applications with appropriate professional bodies for Division-led CPD events;
• Facilitating access to relevant and appropriate online, local, state or national CPD opportunities by disseminating program and funding information;
• Partnering with other organisations and agencies to facilitate local access to CPD events;
• Facilitiating active learning opportunities (eg journal clubs, quality improvement cycles, small group learning); and,
• Providing course information on further professional studies or specialisation.

To ensure quality, the CPD program is based on several guiding principles:

• Needs-driven program development;
• Incorporation of adult learning principles;
• Evidence-based, best practice content;
• Bias-free content;
• Consistency with objectives and standards of key bodies (eg ACRRM, RACGP, Department of Health and Ageing, Medicare Australia); and,
• Inclusion of mechanisms for quality review and evaluation.

Education topics are based on needs identified through the Division's annual survey, event feedback, peer-reviewed literature, and consumer feedback.
