Heading Local Exercise and Nutrition Project (LEAN)

The CWDGP was successful in receiving funding under the Rural Primary Health Service Program – Preventative Health Initiative. The LEAN Project aims to influence skills, knowledge and behavior of families in relation to good nutrition and physical activity through a structured education and prevention program.
The project will have a focus on child, family and workplaces, working in the small towns of Hill End, Glen Alice and Oberon. For more information contact Kath Parnell 02 6333 2821.

5 June 2010 - Collaborative Outcomes

Active Learning Module (ALM) built around chronic disease management in general practice. The ALM focuses on deteriorating asthma, managing cardiovascular risk and oesophageal complications of acid-related disease. Participants will receive:

  • 40 RACGP Category 1 points / 10 ACRRM PDP points
  • 4.5 hours face to face meeting / 1.5 hours at home learning
  • Based on interactive GP-led discussion rather than didactic specialist presentations
  • Concept was initiated by a GP advisory group, then developed by Think Health

Live Strong – Closing the Gap on Chronic Disease educational television program 15 June 8pm AEST

Live Strong is the last of the half hour documentary style programs being broadcast by Rural Health Education Foundation. This particular program showcases some projects from around Australia that are making a difference such as the Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Outreach Program run by the Dharah Gibinj Aboriginal Medical Service in Casino NSW. Live Strong will be broadcast through the foundations national satellite television network on Tuesday 15 June 2010 and repeated Friday 18 June. Are your nurses accredited to conduct pap smears?

The Well Women’s Screening Course has received funding from the Cancer Institute NSW for the next financial year. Eligible participants will only need to pay a co-contribution fee of $550. The Cancer Institute funding is covering the remainder of $1150.
