H1N1 Vaccination Program - Urgent update: 7 October 2009
We have just been informed that the Commonwealth supplied syringes contain latex. Syringes are often known to contain latex, particularly in the plunger.
If using the Vaccination Pack syringes it is imperative to consider latex allergy and if a history of latex allergy is present - use an alternate syringe (e.g., a 1mL latex-free tuberculin syringe) or delay vaccination until an alternate latex-free syringe is found. The question on the consent form "Has any severe allergies (to anything)" may help guide the provider's questions.
DO NOT USE a vaccination pack syringe in a person with a latex allergy.
